United Stevedores Amsterdam (USA), a subsidiary of the Ter Haak Group, recently received the keys of six new RORO tractors. These new acquisitions are very valuable for the logistic handling of containers, break bulk and heavy project cargoes in the port of Amsterdam. The new RoRo tractors are strong, clean and safe, and ensure efficiency and easy use.

RORO tractors are a vital part of the logistics operation in the multipurpose terminal. They are used for loading and unloading RORO vessels, using roll trailers, and to move trailers and cargo on board. In addition, the tractors are used for internal transport of containers, timber and heavy project pieces. For the short- or long-term storage of cargo USA has 60,000 m2 shed space available. The RORO tractors have an easy access to these sheds by the ground entrance to the water side or by the loading docks at the rear site.

Cargo which has to be transported over water is brought by the RORO tractors to the deep, coaster or barge quays. USA facilitates with its sister company Barge Company Amsterdam (BCA) a daily barge service between Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Antwerp, and every two weeks to various destinations along the river Rhine up to Basel (CH). The terminal also has an ‘in-house railway transfer station’, which is connected to the European railway network. Two of the six RORO tractors are specially made suitable for road transport. They can transport cargo quickly and directly to nearby terminals, sheds and distribution centers in the Amsterdam port area.

The new RORO tractors are safer, more efficient, cleaner and more economical. That is, among other things, due to the improved combustion of the engine and the fitting of partical filters, as Ter Haak also has done four years ago, ordering the preceding tractors. But there are more reasons why the trucks are good to work with. Both the four Terberg RORO tractors and two new yard tractors are highly maneuverable because of their small turning circle. The large windows, all around, offer the drivers a full view in all directions. The RORO tractors are also equipped with SafeNeck, an extra secure coupling for heavy rolltrailers. USA is the first company in the port of Amsterdam who has put this safe construction, unique to the RORO tractors of Terberg, into use.

Richard ter Haak, director/owner of the Ter Haak Group, has every confidence in the Terberg products: "Years of experience in the design, development and production of RORO tractors makes this family an absolute expert in this field. Professionalism, reliability, quality and tailor made solutions are grounds to continue the cooperation with Terberg. By the way, the same properties on which we also prosper."
