Terberg Benschop has delivered six new terminal tractors for use at plastics producer SABIC. The new vehicles replace Terberg tractors which did duty for years in Bergen op Zoom. Three YT182 Terberg Yard Tractors are equipped with a Drum-compressor.
Terberg Benschop has equipped three of the six terminal tractors of the type YT with a Drum-compressor to blow out bulk trailers and containers. SABIC expects to recover the extra cost of the supply within three months. The installation of a Drum-compressor on a Terberg tractor is new and that makes these specimens of SABIC unique. Terberg has found an appropriate place for the hydraulically driven Drum-compressor and its two facilities, the oil cooler and the air filter. The ergonomic step to the platform remained completely intact on both sides of the truck. The capacity of the compressor is 950-1100 cubic meters of air per hour. The screw compressor of Gardner Denver is hydraulically powered by an extra pump on the PTO.
With the installation of the Drum-compressor, SABIC no longer needs to call for a contracting party for unloading bulk trailers and containers. This will allow SABIC to control planning and timing of production much better with minimal building-up stocks. SABIC produces in the factory in Bergen op Zoom seven days a week, 24 hours a day. The final product is high quality plastic, for the production of for example the famous Lexan ©. The Terberg tractors were supplied by Crepa. The company from Rijswijk has leased the vehicles for a period of six years to SABIC.
"One Site, One Vision"
SABIC is committed to optimization under the motto "One Site, One Vision". Therefore SABIC works as much as possible together with known, trusted and knowledgeable partners like Crepa and Terberg. Crepa, as a supplier of forklift trucks, has a solid relationship with SABIC. Crepa provides in Bergen op Zoom for the maintenance of eighty trucks and also takes care for the terminal tractors with which SABIC moves bulk semi-trailers, containers and trailers on its own site. This is and has been done for years with the previously delivered Terberg YT models, the special Terberg terminal tractors for storage and handling areas. The new tractors have, among other things, the advantage of a larger cabin. SABIC utilized the extra space to mount an extra seat that can be used for education or safety training. As safety and environment have a high priority at SABIC, Crepa has equipped the vehicles with EasyKey, a computerized system that records the use of the vehicle and turns the engine off when idling more than five minutes. At the rear, an Orlaco camera is mounted to overview the position of the support legs, to avoid the chance of damaging to the support legs of the trailers. All these extras enhance the qualities that users like SABIC can count on with a Terberg YT tractor: security, flexibility and reliability combined with low operating costs.
