"Actually, this Terberg has never needed a major repair," says Bart Kolk in De Wijk (The Netherlands) about the 8x8 tipper he is working with since the summer of 1996. Recently, the odometer has passed the reading of 1,000,000 km.
One million kilometers within thirteen years. It shows that the Terberg FL 2000 WDG has been working firmly in that period. This also applies to driver and owner Bart Kolk who has been driving the Terberg from the first day. "It has not been difficult to bring the counter to that mileage", says Bart, who is leading the transport company together with his brother Jan. The two professional hauliers have divided the work. Jan supervises the international transport, with ten vehicles on the road, Bart looks after the domestic branch with seven Terberg 8x8 tippers. To an outsider it may be surprising that Bart has been driving the vehicle all the time. His son Ronnie is driving a younger Terberg, which is a much more comfortable vehicle than father Bart’s truck. The new Terberg trucks are quieter, have a softer suspension and a stronger engine with more power and higher torque. "I prefer the real old-fashioned work, and I know exactly how to drive a tipper", Bart says with a smile. "I'm driving a tipper since I was 19 years old, and this year I celebrate my 62nd birthday!
Double quality
The skill of the driver is no doubt a major influence in reaching the spectacular mileage. However, the quality of the Terberg FL 2000 WDG has obviously also played an important role. In thirteen years of hard work, no unusual repairs were carried out. Bart says about that issue: "The nozzles were changed, yes, but the engine was not extracted. Other parts of the power train, such as the gearbox, the transfer case and drive shafts have done their job without repairs.” Thus, this FL 2000 WDG has clearly demonstrated that vehicles of Terberg are extremely reliable and robust, even under the heaviest operating conditions. "As a tipper he did his heavy work on the road, but also in sand and clay," explains Bart Kolk. He has not yet decided to say goodbye to the vehicle, on which he works for so long with so much satisfaction.
