Terberg distributor ZAO Konecranes has delivered two Terberg Yard tractors to be used in the brand new car production facility of PSA and MMC in Kaluga, Russia. The tractors of Terberg close the line in a complicated logistic operation between France and Russia.
April this year senior executives Philippe Varin of PSA (Peugeot, Citroën) and Takashi Nishioka of MMC (Mitsubishi Motors Corporation) opened their new car factory in Kaluga, 180 kilometers southwest of Moscow. At that time the first Terberg tractor was already working in this newly built factory, which is producing cars for the Russian market and the surrounding countries. With the investment of 470 million euro’s (70% PSA and 30% MMC), the Kaluga factory will be able to produce 125.000 vehicles a year in 2012. Russia is the fastest growing market for passenger cars in Europe and it is said that it will soon take over the first place as such from Germany. In Kaluga PSA and Mitsubishi are producing midsized passenger cars like the models 308, 4007, C4, C-Crosser and Outlander. Certain parts for the production are made in France. To deliver these parts just in time at the production line in Kaluga, a complicated logistic operation is needed. The Terberg tractors take care of last transfer on the factory site.
Railway Service
By choosing Kaluga as production place, PSA en MMC followed Volkswagen, Renault Trucks and Volvo Trucks who earlier opened factories there. Since PSA and MMC decided to start in Kaluga, Gefco has worked out a railway service between Vesoul in the east part of France, near Mulhouse, and Kaluga. The logistic service provider Gefco is specialized in automotive. March this year the first train covered the distance of 3.000 kilometers in five days. Every day a shuttle with 36 containers has to be transferred to a Russian train at the border between Poland and Belarus because of the wider track in Eastern Europe. In Kaluga the Terberg tractors handle the containers ‘the last mile’.
Multifunctional
The Terberg tractors of the model YT182 are working with a HAMMAR container side loader trailer. To operate the side loader the Terberg YT182 is equipped with an extra oil pump. It makes the combination multifunctional, for loading and unloading as well as transport.
The self supporting units are maintained by ZAO Konecranes. The Terberg distributor wants to provide his customers in the sectors industry, process industries, shipyards and ports, with hoisting and maintenance solutions that enhance productivity.
Oleg Shats, Lifttrucks department director of ZAO Konecranes: “Our unique experience comes on top of that. Konecranes Corporation concludes preventive maintenance contracts now for almost fifty years. Skilled maintenance and good parts supply are the strong points which make us successful all over Russia.”
