Recently Terberg delivered 2 special vehicles. These vehicles were specially made for Multiserve Transport in Beverwijk. (Steel factory plant Corus IJmuiden)
It concerns 4 axled vehicles for container transport based on the chassis of a terminal tractor. The front part and the cab are from the 4x2 YT tractor. The axle suspension and steering system are from the 8x4 road trucks. Multiserve was searching for an extremely heavy 4 axled vehicle for mounting a hook arm system of the company Velsycon from Germany. Those 4 axles were needed because the Corus plant in IJmuiden allows a maximum axle load of 12,5 tons. The 35 tons rear axle of Terbergs 2 axled container chassis, which is mostly operating in this kind of material handling companies, was therefore not suitable.
The driveline is based on terminal tractor technology. This means a Cummins engine with an Allison full automatic transmission. The driver doesn’t have to shift and has excellent visibility and focus on the Corus plant because of the many big windows. The hook arm system is also special because the hook can move horizontal on the vehicle. The containers can be lifted from their rack without tipping whereby no material can fall out of the container. The hook arm system has also a tipping function for tipping the container.
This type of vehicle has earlier been delivered to the companies Velserkom and Van Tunen also for operation on the steel factory plant in IJmuiden.
