RT tractor with 45° tapered chassis to celebrate 35 years of terminal tractors
For the first time Terberg Benschop presents the RT tractor with a shorter turning radius on the IAA Hanover Commercial Vehicles. This new solution proves that Terberg Benschop, 35 years after the start of production, still continuously improves the product and converts customers wishes into concrete solutions.
Terberg Benschop produced the first terminal tractor in 1973. Since the start of the production, the number of models and versions has been increased continuously. Terberg Benschop shows three examples of the latest models on the 62nd edition of the IAA Commercial Vehicles from 25 September to 2 October 2008 in Hanover. Hanover is known as the most important European commercial vehicles show for transport professionals. Visitors come from all over the world.
Proud in the centre of the Terberg-Nordlift ground is a lefthand drive RT282, with a 45° tapered chassis front at the right hand side. This is important because the RT has to perform under extreme difficult circumstances when manoeuvring in and out of ships. Due to the extra tapered chassis the allready short turning circle radius has been further reduced in left curves. The model as shown in Hanover has the benefit of a turning radius which has been reduced from 6690 to 6440 mm (-3,8 percent). The RT222 gains even more, from 6620 to 6360 mm (-4,1 percent). Two other models on the fair are a Bodycarrier for the transportation of swap bodies and a yard tractor for the movement of trailers and semi trailers on industrial zones and logistic centres.
Wanted in Germany (BC182) and the YT182
The swap body has an important position in the German road transport industry. Therefore it is no surprise that Terberg’s swap-body carrier is a successful product in Germany. The BC182 as shown is equipped with a hydraulic system to lock the swap-body and has a hydraulically liftable 5th wheel as an extra. The reason for this is that the use of tractor-trailers is growing in Germany. Therefore the operators increasingly need to shunt trailers on the yard.
When only the movement of trailers or semi-trailers is applicable, the YT182 is the ultimate machine: quick and easy to handle. The model shown on the exhibition is equipped with a six cylinder Mercedes-Benz engine, OM906LA with an output of 130 kW (174 hp) in combination with an automatic Allison gearbox, type 3000, with 4 gears forward and a lock-up device in 3rd and 4th for the best fuel efficiency. The maximum speed forward is 37 km/h and 7 km/h in reverse.
Heavy-weight
The RT282 with its redesigned front is the heavy-weight. Extra weight has been added for save use on the slope, when heavy loads have to be carried in or out of a ship. The lifting capacity of the 5th wheel is 35 tons. The maximum gross combination weight is 180 tons. The Mercedes-Benz engine (OM906LA, Stage 3A) has a maximum output of 205 kW (275 hp). The powershift transmission from ZF, type 6WG211, has 6 gears forward and 3 gears in reverse which makes it possible to drive with high speed in both directions, forward 35 km/h, in reverse 26 km/h. A lock-up device ensures fuel savings in all gears, both forward and reverse.
KingLifter
Terberg Machines presents the KingLifter on its own exhibition ground at the fair at Freigelände G51. This successful fork-lift truck now has seven different versions. New is a version that has been developed for the poultry-industry. Terberg-Nordlift shows as an example the all terrain fork-lift truck for professionals, the KingLifter TKL-L, with a lifting capacity of 2.500 kg. This robust model is of special interest also for markets outside Europe.
Adjustable rear underrun protection
Terberg Techniek Baarlo presents an adjustable underrun protection for the rear side of a truck with conspicuity marking (contour marking). It is not yet necessary for the European market, but mandatory in the Netherlands since 10 July 2008. With the adjustable underrun protection it is possible to transport longer swap-bodies or containers within the legally allowed vehicle dimensions, even when they stick out relatively far beyond the rear axle. The rear bumper, with European approval, can be adjusted over a distance of 85 centimeters. The possibility to provide both the mechanical and the hydraulic version of the rear bumper with conspicuity marking proves that the rear underrun protection of Terberg Techniek Baarlo is ready for the future.
