Smink Afvalverwerking B.V. has put a special Terberg RT222 into use, an RT with three driven axles and a VDL container hooklift system. The 6x6 will transport containers with waste to the landfill in Hoogland near Amersfoort. The new hook arm system replaces a Terberg RT with a container chain system that has done this hard work very successfully in the past thirteen years.
"Right for waste" is the slogan of Smink Beheer BV. The holding in Amersfoort (NL) consists of three operating companies; SminkAfvalverwerking, Smink Containers and Smink Handels- en Aannemingsbedrijf. Smink was founded in 1955 as a trade- and contracting firm in the ground-, road- and hydraulic engineering, and is part of Shanks Nederland BV since 2006.
The new RT was supplied for the work at Smink Waste which conducts a waste treatment facility in Hoogland, near Amersfoort. The waste storage and processing take place at a clearly visible [settlement] location along the A1. Their aim is to make as much waste as possible suitable for reuse. This is the multinational Shanks’ core business. The environmental trend-setting Shanks Nederland BV is proud of its performance to make more than 86 percent of the collected materials suitable for reuse. What remains in the Amersfoort establishment is driven to the landfill by the Terberg RT.

Many of the materials entering the waste treatment at Smink come loaded in containers. The technical construction of the containers is special. For best results, Smink works with its own containers, specially designed and constructed for the transport of waste. And when the sorting installation, the shredder and the ground washing installation have done their work, for example processing the materials dug up in a soil sanitation, the Terberg RT222 takes the last and hardest part on his account, the ride upward to the landfill. A shovel ensures the correct integration in the landscape. The most notable of this RT222 is the third driving shaft. For additional traction a Steyr WG 1200 transfer case is fitted. This increases the traction of the engine by a factor 1.75. This RT222 has an extra strong power-supply of Mercedes-Benz, the OM 906 LA (Euromot IIIA). The six cylinder line engine gives this RT a power of 205 kW (280 hp) and delivers a high torque of 1,100 Nm at low speed of 1200 to 1600 rev / min. Moreover, the RT222 is not only strong in the climb upward, but also fast in the way back. The Allison automatic transmission type 3000 with six gear ratios takes care of that. For extra protection of workers in the vicinity of the vehicle against the emission of particles, the RT comes with a DPX partical filter. The driver works in a cabin with an overpressure installation, keeping the dust out. A large air-conditioning ensures a pleasant indoor temperature in all conditions. Terberg Benschop, with this new RT222, is proud to enable another contribution to the objective of Smink: "Right for waste."
