Recently a new Terberg FM2000 T 8x8 was delivered to Ltd v/h A. den Breejen. They have lost count in Cruquius, Terberg has already provided so many trucks to the contracting, trade and transport company along the belt canal of the Haarlemmermeer. For driver Peter it is the fourth.
The work of driver Peter Bons is very much appreciated by director Arjo den Breejen. He uses his tipper expertly and sensible. Peter is a champion off road driving and seldom gets stuck with his tipper. Moreover he is able to use his Terberg trucks for a long time and without exuberant using wear. Normally this is already sufficient for an entrepreneur to appreciate an employee highly. In Peter’s case there is an extra quality: he has, during his 22 years of employment, been more and more taking care of the tires. And there are a lot of tires in use at the company. They are driving all kinds of machines, vans, cars and thirty trucks. Especially this latter category gets Peter’s attention. He makes sure that the tires under all vehicles get the care they need. This means changing tires in due time, keeping the tire pressure on level and regularly checking on damages by rupture or other unexpected events. This does not prevent him from putting between 80,000 and the 100,000 kilometers a year on the meter of his tipper. “The mileage depends on the type of work, far away or close by, and on much or little waiting time,” Peter clarifies.
Quality
“As far as I know we have always been driving trucks from Terberg,” is director Arjo den Breejen looking back on the company’s history of more than sixty years. “My father already bought them. They are robust trucks without frills or other superfluous attributes and they remain in one piece for a long time, also under heavy duty circumstances. Moreover they are very good manoeuvrable and have a beautiful cabin. I particularly appreciate the Volvo engine of 440 hp in this new FM2000 T 8x8. It is a clean Euro 5 version. This is not yet obliged, but I am convinced it is a wise choice, because I plan to use the new Terberg’s for a longer period than the five years I am used to up till now. In the long run it is better to start with the most modern material. At our filling station we have installed an extra tank column for AdBlue. Also new for us is the equipping of the FM2000 T 8x8 with tubeless tires. Peter insisted on that, expecting lower costs and a better result in life span. I’m curious.”
Pay attention to the costs
“A long time ago my father sent me to Benschop to pick up a component in the warehouse of Terberg. The moment Goof Terberg saw me enter the gate he called me after: “Pay attention to the costs, my boy!” That remark has made a big impression on me. After more than twenty years I still haven’t forgotten. The Terberg director was right. As an entrepreneur you must continuously pay attention to the costs. That is also what I am doing by buying this Terberg. Should a defect occur, and that can always happen in our type of work, then its solution will never be complicated with a Terberg. We know that because we maintain and repair the trucks ourselves. We have about twelve trucks from Benschop, both with four axles such as this FM2000 T 8x8 and also five axle 10x4 vehicles.
Multi-purpose
The FM2000 T 8x8 is multi-purpose, thanks to the three steered axles. Peter drives it in the city, but made a lot of miles with it before at the construction of the HSL, the high-speed railway line through the middle of the Netherlands. Den Breejen is active in demolition work, but also in large sand and soil transports. In the Haarlemmermeer the company has its own ground depot where in own management all legal administration and associated testing is done so that also uninspected ground can be taken in. In Harlingen the company has a silt depot of 3.4 hectare where class 3 and 4 silt is taken in from trucks and ships, which after treatment is used as building material in road and water construction projects. “We also transport the silt ourselves, with semi-trailers or with the tippers which we first provide with bulkheads. They are all completely ready for it, with hydraulic flaps to cover the cargo and hydraulic clamps on the tailboard which is spill-proof, to avoid the possibility of silt on the street. All cabins are provided with an overpressure installation to prevent noxious vapours to obstruct the driver in his work. We can handle every job with our trucks. That is clearly shown with this new Terberg FM2000 T8x8.”
